John AllisonBack in May 2007 a national campaign to find the VXR Racing Driver of the Year was launched. It attracted a total of 10,000 entrants - each wanting to win the unique prize to represent Vauxhall by driving an Astra VXR in the 2008 Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup. A prize of a full racing season, worth approximately £80,000.

Competition entrants had to first complete a series of multiple choice questions online before learning via email as to whether they had made it through to one of the six semi-final karting events. 2,000 semi finalists raced on karting tracks across the UK before the competition was narrowed down to the fastest 12. These 12 finalists experienced a three day boot camp style final - where they were put through their paces with a series of driving challenges, fitness tests and a press conference before the winner was announced. The final winner was John Allison, a 34 year old mortgage consultant from Beverley, he will represent Vauxhall in the Sport Maxx Cup for the first time at the end of April.

Congratulations John!

Watch out for the VX Racing Driver of the Year competition for 2008!
