The transmission, a TOCA standard part, is a brand new 6 speed sequential gearbox manufactured by Xtrac. This is mated to the Vauxhall engine through a racing multi-plate clutch and a bell housing of our own design. To allow us to make the most of the engine power we can change the gear ratios using Xtrac's extensive range so that during every corner the driver can have the engine in the optimum rev range and therefore producing maximum power. |

The ECU, via a sensor on the gear shift lever knows when the driver is going to change up to the next gear and cuts the ignition for a split second, just long enough to allow the gearbox internals to grab the next gear and settle down before full power is returned. By this method the clutch doesn't have to be used to change gear.
Power is directed to the front wheel through and limited slip differential integrated into the gearbox. The settings of the differential allow us to change the relationship between the wheels and how they rotate relative to each other. This enables us to eliminate wheelspin under acceleration, wheel-locking under braking and to optimise the power and stability of the car. |
