The BTCC regulations are now in line with the World Touring Car S2000 regulations enabling all cars homologated by the FIA to compete in Britain on a level playing field. Still based on the 2 litre formula which has made the success of the Championship, more standard components now are carried over to the race car from the road car it is based on.
From the outside the cars look very similar to the old BTCC cars but with subtle changes to the bodywork. Cars have to have at least 4 doors to compete eliminating the use of coupes and sportier designs of car. The weight limit has gone down by 25 kg to 1150 kg but in essence the cars are mechanically very similar to previously so we should see just as much close racing.
