An amazing amount of equipment is needed to run a modern Touring Car team and all this has to be moved and set up at each track we visit, be it for a test or a race.
Our transporter fleet is composed of two 32 ton semi-articulated purpose built race trailers, one 28T rigid transporter, one 17.5T rigid box truckand another smaller 7.5T box truck . Together, these carry not only the race cars but also all the pit and garage equipment, tools and spare parts required at the track.
Each driver will cover an average of 20,000 miles a year between testing and race weekends. |
Each Triple Eight truck will cover around 20,000 miles per year |
|
As well as driving the trucks to the track, "truckies", as they are known throughout the industry, are also responsible for loading them which takes on average half a day.
In a typical race season our trucks will carry over 2,500 tones back and forth between various race circuits scattered across the UK and Europe and our Greatworth base.
The truckies are also responsible for the race tyres that go on the cars. This includes setting pressures, choosing the correct tyres and liasing with the engineers. |
