In 2003, not content with their domination of the BTCC, Roland Dane, Ian Harrison, Peter Butterly and Derek Warwick decided it was time to take on a new challenge; The Australian V8 Supercar Series. They purchased the then Briggs Motorsport operation, who fielded a pair of Ford Falcons, and began formulating plans for success in the Australian series.
Recognising the sheer competitiveness of the V8 Supercar Championship Series, with a tenth of a second often the difference between victory and defeat, Triple Eight set about building a team that could consistently run at the front of the field. Today 35 designers, engineers, suspension technicians, fabricators, machinists, mechanics, commercial managers and administration personnel work from the organisation's purpose built facility in Brisbane.
After establishing themselves in 2004 and learning the ins and outs of the category, Triple Eight moved to the forefront in 2005 with the signing of multiple champion Craig Lowndes. Lowndes' experience, coupled with Triple Eight's determination, proved a winning formula, and in just his first year with the team they claimed more pole positions, race and round victories in the year than any other team, and would finish a close runner-up. |
